1. Hike at Cedar Breaks and Check out the New Visitor Center
A short drive from Cedar City, the views and trails at Cedar Breaks are out of this world! From the Point Supreme Overlook, you can see the vibrant cliff formations of the amphitheater and sweeping views of the valley beyond. Hike the South Rim Trail to find ancient Bristlecone Pines or opt for the shorter, ADA-accessible Sunset Trail. At night, stick around for unbelievable stargazing!
2. Catch a Performance at the Utah Shakespeare Festival
Tony-Award-winning theater in the heart of Historic Downtown? Sign us up! Walk the beautiful grounds and sculpture gardens at the Beverley Center for the Arts before catching the free nightly Greenshow with the Utah Shakespeare Festival. Starting at 7:10 pm, you can find a seat on the lawn, enjoy a freshly baked tart, and lively singing and dancing before an evening performance.
4. Play, Hike, and Fish at Navajo Lake
This beautiful high-elevation lake is a local favorite spot for a weekend escape. A popular fishing spot, Navajo Lake is also great for fishing, camping, hiking, and biking. Launch the boat and bring in fish. Hike a portion of the 13-mile Navajo Lake Loop Trail through the lava beds and around the lake. Or opt for the red rock and valley views on your way to the waterfall on the Cascade Falls Trail.
5. Farms and Farmer's Markets
With a strong past rooted in agriculture, we love that Cedar City is home to some great local farms and THREE farmer's markets, two of which are open year-round! Labor Day Weekend is a great time to get out and browse the markets. Find local produce, artisan goods, and hand-made gifts at any (or all - make it a farm tour!) of the locations listed below.
Red Acre Farm CSA | Sweet Pea Farm & Orchard | Nature Hills Farm | Festival City Farmer's Market | Cedar City Farmer's Market | Midvalley Farmer's Market
6. Find a New Favorite at the Utah Wine Festival
Now in its sixth year, the Utah Wine Festival is a must-attend event highlighting the wineries throughout the state as well as the local farms through the annual farm dinner! The event size is kept small to keep the event personal and conversation do-able at the table, but check the link included here for tickets. Saturday's events include Flights and Bites, a Terroir to Table Dinner with Red Acre Farm, and tours of southern Utah's premier winery, IG Winery.
7. Take in the Views from the Lifts and Trails in Brian Head
It's not quite fall yet, so beating the heat at 10,000 feet this holiday weekend sounds like a great idea! Catch a scenic lift ride with Brian Head Resort to take in the views before grabbing lunch at their cafe. Then gear up and head out for a hike on the Twitsted Forest Trail to find ancient Bristlecone Pines. Or book an ATV rental through Prime Adventure Outfitters to explore the best of Dixie National Forest and Brian Head Town!
8. Change Your View at the Southern Utah Museum of Art
Find inspiration in rotating exhibits, beautiful artwork, and stunning sculpture courts at the Southern Utah Museum of Art. Next to the Utah Shakespeare Festival, in Historic Downtown, with a shaded patio and refreshing indoor space, SUMA is a must-see in Cedar City. Designed by Brooks + Scarpa, even the building itself is a work of art worth seeing. Admission is free.
9. Get Inspired at the Iron County Festival of Homes
They don't call us "Festival City" for nothing, and the Festival of Homes is one of our favorite events. Who doesn't love a little home inspo? Explore stunning homes, find natural landscape inspiration, get a taste of the latest in home design and building trends, and enjoy a day out and about in some of the most beautiful spaces in Iron County.
10. Take a Scenic Drive and Hike through Kolob Canyons
The north side of Zion National Park, Kolob Canyons is a designated wilderness area that's home to stunning views, winding trails, and a must-see scenic drive. During Labor Day Weekend take a break and a scenic drive to see the rising crimson cliffs and sweeping valley views from the road. Or gear up and get on the trails! The Timber Creek Overlook trail is a short hike with high-mountain views and the Taylor Creek Trail winds along the valley floor past two historic cabins to a beautiful red rock alcove.
