Fall is in the air! The leaves are changing at the high elevations, local coffee shops are ready to roll with fall flavors, and the temperatures have dropped to levels that make hiking in the afternoon somewhat comfortable. With fall settling in nicely we've rounded up five of our favorite trails in the area for fall-color views.
These five trails range in difficulty and terrain, so keep an eye on those trail facts and the #FallColorReport2021 to make sure you catch the best color possible.
About the Fall Colors in the Area
Timing is everything with fall colors. Before setting out on the trails listed below keep an eye out on the Fall Color Report to make sure that you catch the colors at their best. Higher elevations are turning now (mid-September) but low elevation areas like Kolob Canyons and Cedar City won't start to change until October.
The selected trails are all located along designated Scenic Byways that connect Cedar City to some of our neighboring communities. These scenic byways are the perfect spot for a fall color drive! Bring a picnic, gather some friends and charge your phones before heading out and enjoy.
1. Aspen Mirror Trail
This short but scenic trail ends at Aspen Mirror Lake. Surrounded by Aspens, it is a spectacular fall destination and is a great hike for families! Aspen Mirror lake is also a popular spot for fishing.

2. Twisted Forest Trail
Featuring a labyrinth of Bristlecone Pines and a unique view of Cedar Breaks, this is a high elevation hike with a sheer drop-off at the end. From the trailhead there is a brief downhill followed by a steady climb that is absolutely worth it!

3. Hidden Haven Trail
Wind through a wildlife study area then traverse a granite rock wall to a 20ft waterfall. Use care approaching the waterfall as the surface is uneven and strewn with rock.

4. Coal Creek Trail
This paved trail in Cedar City follows Coal Creek up Cedar Canyon. Red rock views abound! As it winds along the banks of Coal Creek you can catch some pretty great fall color among the trees along trail.

5. Timber Creek Overlook Trail
Perfect for an afternoon walk, the trail follows the ridge to a small peak, offering views of Timber Creek, Kolob Terrace and Pine Valley Mountains. The trail is accessible year-round if the scenic drive is open.
