Conservation & Sustainability
With the increase of visitors eager to explore the stunning scenery of our area, there is a need for additional love and care for the spaces around us. By focusing on both the principles of responsible outdoor recreation and prioritizing support for our local businesses, our unique community can remain a wondrous space for many years to come.
Responsible Recreation Values
Protect Outdoors
Protect the outdoor spaces around us, both natural and historical. Cedar City is home to curious wildlife and ancient Bristlecone Pine trees and is surrounded by unique historic sites like the Parowan Gap. Help us to protect these spaces by giving space to wildlife and historic sites, taking only photographs, and leaving only footprints.
Plan Ahead - Permits & Passes
Cedar City is close to many national and state parks, all of which require a park pass for entry. Plan ahead for your visit by making sure you have permits, tickets, and reservations for spaces that require them.
Plan Ahead - Weather & Apparel
Packing the proper range of layers and attire will make a big difference in having a great experience. Pack extra layers to prepare for changes in temperature that come with elevation changes. While paved trails are available, many of our more popular trails (Kanarra Falls) require specific footwear to hike through water and over slick rocks.
Be Kind
We love where we live and hope you’ll love it too while you’re here. While visiting please be mindful and be kind. Respect the places you visit and the people you meet.
Be Fire Wise
A little caution goes a long way in preserving our stunning landscapes. Check current fire restrictions at utahfireinfo.gov and follow fire safety principles. Always keep your fire small and contained and never leave them unattended. Clear away any flammable materials within a 10-foot radius of your fire. Be sure that your fire is completely out before you leave. Dowse the flames with water, stir until cool, and dowse it again, just to be sure.
Keep Space
Let everyone have their own unique experience. Respect the space between your group and others by keeping your voices low and music in your headphones. Respect the experience of others by giving space between your group and others on the trails, at scenic overlooks, and indoor spaces.
Explore Local
There’s no one who knows the area and all the cool things to see/do like the locals do! Book a tour or rentals with one of our local guides and get some trail recommendations while you’re there. Ask the staff at the boutique you just visited for their favorite restaurant. Or find the perfect spot for your group selfie by asking a local.
Be Water Wise
Water is important to all people, places, and things. Even without the iconic towering cacti, trust us, we live in a desert. Help conserve our most precious resource so these beautiful places can be enjoyed for years to come. Take a shorter shower, use a cup instead of running water for brushing teeth, and please make lodging staff aware of faucet or toilet leaks.
