You're here for the games, but there's so much to discover in the time in between! We've broken down a few of our suggestions for an afternoon in Cedar City, from quick adventures between events to a full day adventure before you leave town.
30 MINUTES BETWEEN GAMES
Downtown Cedar City is a great option for a quick afternoon adventure between events!
Walk Main Street and visit local shops, grab a bite at restaurants like Centro for pizza and family-style salads or Park Place for crepes, sandwiches, and more. After that, visit the Southern Utah Museum of Art (free admission) and walk the sculpture gardens at the Beverley Center for the Arts before your next game.
A FEW HOURS BETWEEN EVENTS
If you have an hour or two before your next event, it's a great opportunity to hike a trail or visit cool historic sites!
Walk the paved all-access Coal Creek Trail for views of the canyon that the whole family can enjoy, or opt for a red rock hike through Thunderbird Gardens to find unique rock formations on the Thor's Hideout Trail. Step back in time with a visit to the Frontier Homestead State Park Museum for hands-on activities, pioneer exhibits, and a walk through historic cabins, a school house, and more. Or take a scenic drive the Parowan Gap Petroglyphs, a 20-minute drive on Hwy 130 from Cedar City. Here you'll find over a thousand petroglyphs carved into the stone walls and even some dinosaur tracks if you drive a little further!
A FULL DAY OF ADVENTURE
Ready for a change of scenery? Take a scenic drive along Hwy 14 through Cedar Canyon for a day of cooler temperatures and incredible views on Cedar Mountain. Hike the 1-mile Bristlecone Pine Trail to find views of Zion National Park and ancient Bristlecone Pine trees. From there, continue on to Cedar Breaks National Monument for red rock views, hiking trails, and beautiful meadows. Hike the Sunset Trail for a paved all-access trail for the entire family, or opt for a bit of a challenge with a hike along the South Rim Trail to find more Bristlecone Pines and views of the amphitheater.
Grab lunch in Brian Head (5-minute drive) before taking Hwy 143 into the town of Parowan. In Parowan you can visit historic sites like the Old Rock Church, and visit cool local shops like The Rusty Bucket, Dry Lakes Ranch Beef, Old Crow Basics, and/or Sweet Pea Farm & Orchard.
In the evening, if you need a little time inside after a day of hiking and scenic overlooks, play games at The Cedar Bowling Alley or Cedar Fun Center. Or opt for some stargazing at Three Peaks Recreation Area!
